From Struggling With ACs → Secured Training Contract at CMS
“Working with Gordon truly changed my approach to interviews this cycle.
Through our mock interviews, Gordon was able to quickly identify both my strengths and weaknesses. I found it particularly valuable that he provided very precise feedback on areas where I was falling short, especially in my approach to case studies, and offered clear, practical guidance on how to improve them.
Gordon also provided excellent advice on broader interview strategy. He is extremely personable and has a strong ability to accurately pinpoint your weaknesses and help you develop them very quickly.
Beyond the technical aspects, Gordon significantly helped build my confidence in interviews. Developing the right mindset made a huge difference to my performance, and I am very grateful for the support he provided throughout the process!”

From Failing at ACs & Interviews -> Secured Training Contract at Irwin Mitchell (UK)
“I recently secured a Training Contract with Irwin Mitchell in their Individual Services division, and the BigLaw Academy mentoring sessions played a significant role in helping me achieve that outcome. The guidance and interview preparation were invaluable, helping me build my commercial awareness, refine my answers, and, most importantly, develop the confidence to perform well during my interviews.
The support I received enabled me to present myself effectively and leave a strong impression throughout the recruitment process. I am incredibly grateful for the mentoring and would highly recommend the programme to aspiring solicitors looking to secure vacation schemes or training contracts.

Meet Gordon Chung
In 2018, I received my 35th rejections.
I had just graduated from Cambridge University — one of the most prestigious law schools in the world — and I could not even get an unpaid internship, let alone a paralegal role. I was sitting in Costa Coffee every morning, applying for jobs I was overqualified for, staying in a cheap Airbnb because I could not afford London rent, and wondering whether I had made a catastrophic mistake by choosing London over Hong Kong, where I came from.
Nobody had taught me how the BigLaw application process actually worked. Not Cambridge. Not the careers service. Not anyone.
So I built a system myself. I spent every morning researching law firms and every afternoon writing applications — five days a week, like a full-time job. Eventually, a two-week temp role as a document review paralegal turned into another temp job, which turned into a training contract at one of the world's biggest law firms.
After nearly four years in London BigLaw, I realised something: the skills that got me in the door — the structured system, the pattern recognition, the ability to craft an application that stood out — were more valuable to other people than anything I was doing at my desk.
I did not come from a wealthy family. I did not have connections. I grew up being told that education was the only way out of poverty, and I nearly got a 2:2 in my first year of law school. I am not a natural. I am someone who figured it out the hard way, documented everything, and now teaches it.
Since then, I have helped candidates from the UK, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Singapore, Dubai, Malaysia, Nigeria and beyond land vacation schemes, training contracts and associate roles at Magic Circle, Silver Circle, and US firms — many of them after years of rejections, many of them first-generation lawyers who had never seen anyone like them succeed in BigLaw.
My goal is to make sure that the only thing standing between you and your dream firm is your preparation — not your background, your passport, or the fact that nobody ever showed you how the game works.
I took the chance. Now let me help you take yours.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
The BigLaw Academy Cohort includes weekly group coaching sessions with Gordon (coach) where you can ask him questions, get guidance and receive feedback. You’ll also have access to a private group to engage with other ambitious members.
-
Your access starts from the date of your enrolment. You’ll immediately get access to the full job search framework, tools and community. The weekly live coaching sessions include a dynamic mix of aspiring lawyers which creates great opportunities to learn from others and get fresh perspectives as you work through the tools and your career goals.
-
Each week, the cohort meets for a live group session covering one core module of the curriculum — from CV and profile building in the early weeks, through application strategy, cover letters, and online assessments, to assessment centres and partner interviews in the later weeks.
Between sessions, you will complete structured application tasks and exercises, and submit work for feedback where applicable. You should expect to commit approximately 3–5 hours per week to get the most out of the programme.
-
Both. The live group sessions cover the core curriculum content and include group discussion, Q&A, and shared learning from the cohort's collective experience. In addition, you will receive personalised feedback on your own applications, cover letters, and interview technique — because generic advice only gets you so far. The combination of group learning and individual feedback is what makes this programme significantly more effective than a course or a subscription service.
-
We understand that life can sometimes get in the way, and we appreciate that our students have busy schedules. However, please note that we do not reschedule or switch the session time to accommodate individual absences — this ensures fairness and consistency for all members of the cohort.
If you are unable to attend a particular session, a full recording of the session will be made available to you so you can catch up in your own time and ensure you do not miss any of the content covered. We encourage all students to review the recording promptly and bring any follow-up questions to the next session or reach out directly.
To get the most out of the programme, we strongly recommend attending live sessions wherever possible, as the group discussion and real-time interaction are a key part of the learning experience.
-
Each cohort is deliberately kept small — a maximum of 12 students — to ensure that every participant receives meaningful attention and personalised feedback throughout the programme. This is not a large online course with hundreds of passive viewers. It is a focused, high-accountability group where your progress is tracked and your work is seen.
-
The 1-to-1 BigLaw Academy™ is our most personalised offering — every session is tailored entirely to you, and you receive Gordon's undivided attention throughout.
The BigLaw Academy Cohort covers the same core curriculum and delivers the same structured framework, but in a cohort setting where you also benefit from the shared experience and peer accountability of other serious applicants.
The group format is offered at a lower price point to make the BigLaw Academy™ accessible to more students, while maintaining the quality of feedback and materials.
-
Your access to the session recordings and programme materials does not expire — you can revisit them at any time after the cohort concludes. In addition, all graduates are invited to join the BigLaw Academy Cohort alumni community, where you can continue to ask questions, share updates, and support one another through the application process. Gordon also offers a post-programme catch-up call to all graduates to review your progress and discuss next steps.
